As we all know, the magnificent Mule Deer is
the most sought after trophy in all of North America today. With
numbers dropping across the west and trophy class becoming harder to
find, this is perhaps the best hunt in North America for that truly
Monster Mule Deer. I realize some of you would argue this
point, but when you factor in all the pieces I think you will agree.
When you consider the availability of licenses and the Landowner tag
system in eastern Colorado, then there’s the price of the hunt
compared to places such as Old Mexico and the Jicarilla Reservation,
and last but not least the quality of bucks taken year after year in
eastern Colorado. Sure we’d all love to hunt the Arizona strip but
20 years from now we’ll probably all still be waiting to draw the
tag. Here in eastern Colorado we harvest 180” – 200”+ B&C / P&Y
Muleys every year in areas were tags can be obtained almost every
year. We haven’t even started discussing the Huge Whitetails
that roam eastern Colorado yet!!
Deer Quality: Our Mule Deer bucks will
range from 160” – 200”+ B&C / P&Y with several bucks every year
scoring over 200”! The Whitetail bucks in eastern Colorado range
from 140” – 180” B&C / P&Y with several bucks in the last few years
scoring 180” – 200”! Eastern Colorado is a great place to find that
Trophy Whitetail that has eluded you for years. With very
little hunting pressure and glassing opportunities up to several
miles at times our Whitetail are easier to spot. One of Adventures
Wild’s hunters harvested a 181” B&C 9 pointer during the 2006 rifle
season!
Tags: Colorado uses the preference point
system which allows you to obtain a point every that you do not
draw. Rifle tags can be drawn with 0 – 12 preference points
depending on the unit all archery tags can be drawn with 0 points.
We are currently leasing about 400,000 acres of private
property in eastern Colorado in 13 units just for our hunters.
Guaranteed Landowner Tags: Landowner
tags are available but limited and will be on a first come first
serve basis. Rifle tags will run a $1000 - $1500 and the
Muzzleloader tags will run about $750. How many and the units there
in will not be known until about the second week of July.
Rifle Hunts: Rifle hunts will range from
being able to draw tag every year to units that can be drawn with
4-6 preference points. Eastern Colorado has 2 separate rifle hunts
that will be 10/25 – 11/ 4 and 12/1 – 12/14 in 2008 not all the
units have the December rifle hunt. Most units will be limited to 2
hunters per hunt with 1 or 2 exceptions due to acreage and Deer
populations. Most hunts will be all spot and stalk hunts with some
tree stands and ground blinds being used in certain situations.
Muzzleloader Hunts: The season dates
will be 10/11-19 in 2008 just prior to the first rifle hunts. Hunts
are limited but tags can be drawn with 0-4 preference points.
Currently, 2-3 Landowner permits are available each season for $750.
This hunt gives you the first crack at that Monster Buck. Most hunts
will be spot and stalk.
Archery Hunts: 2007 was another great
year for the archer and we expect 2008 to be no different. This will
be one of most exciting bow hunts that you will ever experience. The
quality of the bucks seen on these hunts has been incredible and
most tags can be obtained with 0 preference points due to the lack
of local bow hunters and most all of eastern Colorado being private
property. You will certainly see some big bucks and maybe with just
a little luck you will get an arrow in one. Most hunts will be spot
and stalk with some treestands and ground blinds being used mostly
for whitetails.
Hunt Availability: Hunts are available
on a limited basis each year. Adventures Wild clients harvested
11 Muley bucks and 2 Whitetail buck over 180” B&C /
P&Y in 2007 and in the last 8 years have harvested 96!
All license applications are due by April 1st, please
see the Professional Application Services on our website or give us
a call! Even if your just thinking you might like to hunt
Colorado Mule Deer we strongly urge to get started on preference
points, give us a call and we can take care of that for you!
Attention: Currently hunts do not
include food and lodging. Hunts will be done from hotels and
restaurants in most units. We do have a ranch house in one location
and the rancher charges $50 a day for food and lodging. Average cost
of food and lodging will be about $300 - $350 per person.

not guaranteed success, we do not utilize high fences
in eastern Colorado. Trophy hunting can be difficult and the hunter
must be prepared for the possibility of going home empty-handed. We
make no promises as to the quality of the bucks that will be seen on
each individual hunt. Hunters should also plan to stay for the
entire duration of the hunt, as many monster bucks have been taken
on the final day of the hunt. Adventures Wild is responsible for the
means and method of the hunt, but the hunter is responsible for his
or her own ability and patience.
